　　2008年8月22日下午，《北京798：中國(guó)變革中的藝術(shù)、建筑與社會(huì)》（Beijing 798 Now: Changing Arts, Architecture and Society）新書發(fā)布會(huì)將在北京798藝術(shù)區(qū)舉行。該書由北京798藝術(shù)區(qū)建設(shè)管理辦公室出品，由東八時(shí)區(qū)書屋出版，由建筑師程磊先生和藝術(shù)評(píng)論家、獨(dú)立策展人朱其先生擔(dān)任主編。

　　《北京798：中國(guó)變革中的藝術(shù)、建筑與社會(huì)》（Beijing 798 Now: Changing Arts, Architecture and Society）歷時(shí)半年多時(shí)間，采訪了20余位建筑規(guī)劃領(lǐng)域的權(quán)威人士以及藝術(shù)區(qū)內(nèi)真正參與798實(shí)踐的建筑師、藝術(shù)家、策展人、畫廊主、藝術(shù)書店主和非盈利空間運(yùn)作人等。該書采用中英文雙語(yǔ)的形式，圖文并茂，以豐富而翔實(shí)的圖片資料，一方面還原真實(shí)的歷史，另一方面對(duì)798的現(xiàn)狀進(jìn)行討論和研究，希望通過(guò)798的實(shí)踐，為類似的藝術(shù)區(qū)提供一種發(fā)展的經(jīng)驗(yàn)和一個(gè)解決問(wèn)題的方案。

　　從傳統(tǒng)的工業(yè)區(qū)到代表中國(guó)新文化的國(guó)際藝術(shù)社區(qū)，北京798藝術(shù)區(qū)似乎已經(jīng)成為北京城市化進(jìn)程中的典型個(gè)案。該書用開(kāi)篇1/3的篇幅和大量珍貴的歷史圖片資料再現(xiàn)了798從新中國(guó)電子工業(yè)重鎮(zhèn)到聞名中外的藝術(shù)園區(qū)的變化過(guò)程。

　　“798 是邊緣地區(qū)在北京城市化進(jìn)程中突破原有秩序和格局變異為城市區(qū)域核心的典范。”程磊先生認(rèn)為：“這個(gè)大院，從原有的產(chǎn)業(yè)時(shí)代烏托邦，在不改變建筑形態(tài)的基礎(chǔ)上，建立起新的城市活力中心，提出城市發(fā)展的新可能。”為此，在本書的第二部分“發(fā)展與理念”，我們邀請(qǐng)了包括法國(guó)庫(kù)爾貝美術(shù)館館長(zhǎng)讓-雅克?費(fèi)爾尼、著名建筑師馬清運(yùn)在內(nèi)的多位建筑界、藝術(shù)界的權(quán)威人士，對(duì)藝術(shù)與建筑、藝術(shù)區(qū)與城市發(fā)展等問(wèn)題展開(kāi)廣泛而深入的探討。

　　《北京798：中國(guó)變革中的藝術(shù)、建筑與社會(huì)》討論的出發(fā)點(diǎn)并不僅僅是介紹798的成功與繁榮，更重要的是探討798的現(xiàn)狀以及面臨的問(wèn)題。為此，我們邀請(qǐng)了不同時(shí)期入駐798藝術(shù)區(qū)的中外人士，包括藝術(shù)家，畫廊、非盈利藝術(shù)空間、藝術(shù)書店和藝術(shù)項(xiàng)目交流機(jī)構(gòu)的負(fù)責(zé)人，廣泛探討了管理、商業(yè)化的控制、入住機(jī)構(gòu)的水準(zhǔn)、藝術(shù)實(shí)驗(yàn)和文化工業(yè)的平衡、政府資金和政策的扶持等問(wèn)題。同時(shí)，在藝術(shù)全球化和中國(guó)社會(huì)變革的背景下，這些798藝術(shù)區(qū)的創(chuàng)造者、實(shí)踐者們，也對(duì)798未來(lái)發(fā)展提出了富有建設(shè)性的構(gòu)想。

　　Architect Cheng Lei and independent art critic Zhu Qi, the editors of a newly published 400 page book of interviews, texts and images on the rapidly changing art, architecture and arts community known today as 798, will come to the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in 798 Friday, August 22 to lead an open discussion on the many issues facing the district today.

　　Joining the discussion will be the head of the Beijing 798 Art Zone Administration & Development Office, Chen Yongli, and Timezone 8 publisher Robert Bernell, as well as other 798 participants in the book project.

　　From industrial complex to international art district, Beijing 798 has become a symbol of urban change in China. This book canvases the district's insiders - architects, artists, curators, critics, galleryists, publishers, art professionals and non-profit workers, among others – to explore many of the issues facing the art district (and China as a whole) today: development plans, artistic freedoms, commercial controls, globalization, tradition, as well as modes of artistic experimentation and contemporary practice.

　　Against the backdrop of globalization and social change, the broad and penetrating discussion that unfolds in this book's texts and interviews offer critical insight and analysis into many of the issues that the district now faces and, in doing so, afford the reader glimpses into the possible futures of art, architecture and society in China.
